Lesson: In class we are learning what it means to persevere when we have obstacles. The purpose is to learn what so what does it mean to persevere?
“How did Lily consider her mom’s point of view?”
“How did considering her mom’s point of view help Lily to advocate for herself?”
Discuss “initiative”. “How did Lily take initiative?”
Discuss “perseverance”. “How did Lily show perseverance in the face of obstacles?”
“How was Lily’s situation a “Win-Win” outcome?” “How could this have been changed to be a “Win-Lose” or “Lose-Win” outcome?” Discuss the difference between “Win-Lose” and “Lose-Win” as discussed on pg. 55 of 7 Habits of Happy Kids.
Vocabulary for this Lesson:
Advocate: v. to support or speak in favor of.
n. a person who speaks in support or defense of a person or cause
Initiative: the power or ability to begin
and follow through energetically with a
plan or task
Perseverance: persisting in a course of action in spite of obstacles (VIA character strength)
Social Intelligence: being aware of the motives and feelings of other people and oneself; knowing what makes other people tick (VIA character strength)
Directions: Keep a spiral bound notebook to keep all your work in just like we do at school.
1. Cut the words apart and glue in your spiral or write down the 4 vocabulary words and the definition in kid friendly words.
2.Journal entry- Reflect and think about what obstacles you are facing right now in regard to the Covid 19 pandemic. Write a paragraph telling about those obstacles. What does perseverance mean to you right now in regard to what is going on in the world?
3. You all should be writing a minimum or 10 sentences. Use you writing tools.
Use powerful verbs, adjectives, and be sure to use correct sentence structure.
* Check spelling on all words as well as punctuation
* It should be written neatly.
* Use perseverance to make your work the best it can be like you were going to publish it.
Divergent Thinking- Create 5 different thank you cards to the first responder helping with the Covid 19 virus. Decorate any way you would like.
First Responders are doctors, nurses, paramedics, food shelters, and anyone working right up front with the patients that need help.
Convergent Thinking- Free choice to explore the different websites.
